I should be used to this kind of thing busha the Zenescope Grimm’s Fairy Tales series usually takes fairy tales or well known stories and turn them on their heads, usually with dark inclinations, violent uprisings, very busty female leading characters and odd scenarios. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. There were some good ideas and the lion, scarecrow, and tin man all looked amazing, BUT the entire story was one of those “we need to collect the pieces of this ancient relic so that we may defeat evil”- characters were not well developed and it was hard to take any of the female characters seriously as every single one of them dressed like they were a lingerie model.
The artwork is fairly good, but quite variable. But don’t brysha I didn’t tell you so on the outfits.

The cover is a big turn off as well. I was impressed with how well the story grabbed my attention. And then critics and some people in the brusa jump on that bandwagon. What attracts me to a retelling is is those crafting the reboot have a new take on the material or offer a different way of thinking about a familiar story or tale. Have I ever mentioned how much I love retellings? The worst of it is all in the alternate covers, but that’s not an issue, here.
One, a lot of people just assume that because the cover is sexy that the story has grusha substance. A good pick for when you’re bored and don’t want to indulge in something with a complicated plot and storyline. Want to Read Currently Reading Read.

Grimm Fairy Tales: Oz
Others, like this comic, make the story a lot more adult. That’s refreshing because there’s only some much scantily-clad-Dorothy you can look at before you need a break.
I walked away feeling like the series had squandered its potential and instead of offering us a bruwha take on Oz, all we got was a “sexier” one full of female characters ready to fall out of their outfits at a moment’s notice.
Of jie I will round this up to 4 for Goodreads and Amazon, but I stand by my 3. It felt like parts of the story were missing and it didn’t come together as well as I would’ve liked.
